Through combining the skills of our own music department with those of tutors brought in from the Portora Royal School we have started a tradition of music tuition and performance that is becoming renowned within the local community.
Music tuition begins in Primary 4 with lessons in percussion and singing. In Primary 4, pupils are first provided with lessons in pre-instrumental skills including rhythm and pitch. Pupils are then given the opportunity to learn a stringed, woodwind or brass instrument. Through this tuition pupils are encouraged to work towards Grade certificates in their chosen instrument. We are consequently able to offer children the chance to participate in:
- String / Recorder / Brass Ensembles
- The School Orchestra is under development
Musicians perform regularly in morning assemblies, carol services and special events. The success is assisted by Mrs L Emerson who is an pianist/organist and member of Murley Silver Band (Northern Ireland Brass Champions 2008/09). She is also the Conductor of Ballyreagh Silver Band. Mrs Emerson is assisted by Mrs R Bailie who is also an acomplished pianist, organist and singer who has sung in various local choral events.
